Course Offered in B. Tech (Food) Program:
B. Tech (Food) is four-year annual system program of Tribhuvan University. The first year offers courses in basic sciences, engineering and microbiology. Food science and engineering are taught in the second year. Third and fourth year are devoted to the teaching of the technology of various food products, food quality control, storage and packaging, and food plant management and operation research. In the third year the students get opportunity for a 10-day industrial tour to observe food process operations of different food industries of Nepal. Besides these, the students have to submit research dissertation and take 45 days in-plant training in food industries in the final year.
Eligibility for Admission:
The candidates, who had passed I. Sc./+2 (science), certificate level of food technology/ Laboratory Technology from Tribhuvan University or any institute recognized by this university with at least second division are eligible to apply for admission in B. Tech. (Food). Students are selected on their merit in the entrance examination.
There is a strong demand for Food Technology graduates both locally and abroad. The B. Tech graduates have ample opportunity to pursue higher studies in the country itself and abroad. In the food industry, graduates work in applied research, plant and food process management, packaging, quality control, product evaluation, product and process development and technical consultant to manufacturing and marketing. In the government service, graduates work in research, technical, education, advisory inspection and regulation. In the academia, graduates can become academician, researchers, consultants and extension workers. Another option for the graduates is to be entrepreneurs of their own food businesses.
